One of the seven priorities of UCSF's Campus Strategic Plan is to "Develop innovative, collaborative approaches to education, health care and research that span disciplines within and across the health sciences. As part of realizing this plan, Drs. Reichardt and Nussbaum are developing a course titled "Demystifying Medicine" in which real-lfe medical problems and mysteries will be presented and analyzed from both a medical and a basic research perspective. This course is intended to introduce graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to opportunities and challenges in research into major human health-related disorders. It is also intended to provide introductions to medical students and clinical residents and fellows to cutting edge disease-related research. This course, Physiology 181, is intended to enhance interdisciplinary training of future academic physicians and scientists interested in careers that address major human health challenges. It may be taken multiple times for credit.
