San Francisco General is located on the east side of the city, close to the new Mission Bay campus. It is widely regarded as one of the finest public hospitals in the nation. UCSF is proud of its 134-year long history of providing quality medical care at SFGH, where UCSF physicians and staff work side-by-side with the dedicated employees of the San Francisco Department of Public Health. SFGH also maintains a robust research program. There are 137 faculty members at SFGH, 260,000 sq. ft. of lab space, $93M total annual grant awards and more than 20 general research areas.
